As of Blender 4.0, the retopology method shown here doesn't work at all. The vertices just collapse in on themselves whenever they're extruded.

I use AI all the time for a multitude of creative topics including, baking, art, and software. It has saved me hundreds of hours and helped me better plan out my projects. It also acts as a great quick resource for information. That being said, it certainly is no replacement for true human creativity - not because of ethics, but simply because it lacks the one fundamental ability everyone is able to do: make decisions.

I would be happy if AI was limited to purely retopo. Let us do the creative bits, let the machines do the annoying stuff.

Machine learning models can ONLY produce outputs based on their training data, which pretty much means that they can't generate unique outputs (they can combine elements of things they know how to generate though).

I wish you could make a slow course for dummies to make a character at the same time with you, I love your works <3

Well, that and full AI crap can't be copyrighted, so nothing you do with it is commercially safe.

this is an amazing tutorial. only gripe i have is that im kinda new to blender, so the sheer amount of times that ive had to go back over and over and over again only to wind up missing details that you pointed out very clearly for a 2 second span, or just seeing new details pop up out of no where that you never mentioned and missing out on them completely for the first few attempts at making a model this way have been frustrating. other than that, this is a fantastic tutorial!

Instead of using paint, you could use a python script ( with pillow ) to convert every png into a 24 bit depth png ( still works, the examples in the original file are 24 bit too ). Takes a couple seconds and works like a charm.
